Everyone interested is invited to join in this exploration of the documentary film – and non members of the Cowal Cinema Club Documentary Film Explorers are welcome.
Upcoming events in this endlessly fascinating initiative are detailed below.
Programme
Stranger than fiction, a short history of the documentary; with The Grierson Family – a documentary about the life and times of John Grierson [‘Father of the Documentary’] and extracts of his work and that of other early documentary makers as well as a full length feature from the same period. These workshops will be on Saturday 28th February from 11am to 1pm; and from 1.30pom to 3pm.
Slices of life - a selection of contemporary short documentaries made in Scotland, with discussion on what makes a ‘good’ documentary; and the screening of a contemporary full length feature. This workshop will be on Saturday 14th March from 11am to 1pm and from 1.30pm to 3pm.
Meet the makers - on the making of a documentary. Guest documentary makers will discuss their work and illustrate it with extracts. This workshop will be on Saturday 4th April from 11am to 1.00 pm
Open Screening at the Studio Cinema, Dunoon – screening a full length documentary from the best of 2014, selected by the workshop members. This event will be on Saturday 9th May from 10.30am to 12noon.

Venue
Apart from the Studio Cinema event on 9th May, all workshops will be held at the Baptist Chirch Hall above Seasons Cafe in Dunoon.
Note: The programmes for March and April may have to be be swapped around – depending on available bookings for the guest presenters.
